Overview
Hoops is a Chicago-based tech startup transforming grassroots basketball. We collaborated with the founding team to create a strong brand identity and product. The iOS and Android app allow coaches to perfect their game by strategising, planning tactics, analysing game results and viewing tables and leagues. We helped the founders to design and prioritise their ideas for features
"We took inspiration from the aesthetics from SpaceJam I'd loved as a child! We then adapted them of course with our crash course reintroduction of Basketball, and took cues from our previous sports-tech product design to craft some slick functionality."
Our design thinking
We wanted to give an NBA-level team feel for the amateur-level teams on the app. So that meant slick visuals, colour schemes and flows. Taking inspiration from the jersey and mascot styles of NBA teams, we created a punchy colour scheme and component library. Next, we undertook a series of trials to navigate the complex UX features of the app.
Finished product
In a short period, we gave this fledgling startup a brand identity and product prototype that propelled Hoops to the same level as more established companies. Investing in design at the beginning stages of a startup is pivotal for a strong launch + obtaining funding.
